wedding photography, chico | Katie & Kevin {married}

Katie and Kevin got married in Chico, at the home where Katie grew up. It was the perfect backyard wedding filled with tons of friends and family who adored both Kevin and Katie so much. Katie and Kevin were drawn together through their love for traveling the world and discovering new places and people. So naturally their wedding followed a travel theme. The decor was filled with vintage postcards and each area in the backyard highlighted a different country they have traveled together. Each guest also wrote them a little love note on one-of-a-kind vintage postcards from the 1920, 30 and 40’s which made for such great keepsakes from their day. Love that idea! It was really special to be a part of their day, from the ceremony at the church to what was shared during the toasts, there were multiple times where I had to air out my eyes and catch a tear or two. You know, there are some couples you meet and you can tell, instantly, that they were just meant for each other? There’s no denying that these two were meant to be!

bay area wedding photography, Mandela & Tim {married}

There aren’t enough words to describe how much fun it was to document this wedding! Mandela and Tim are two creative souls who’s personalities and heart could be felt all throughout this rustic, creative and oh so fun outdoor wedding. When I first met them, I could see how much they loved each other and after hearing their vows to each other, it was evident to everyone how much they are meant to be! Their passion for photography drew them together and their fun loving hearts are so wrapped up with each other.  The ladies from Enjoy Events Co. blew me away yet again with their creative details and little DIY elements. Emily and Megan, I love you both! Corals, pinks, yellows and blues highlighted the day so beautifully with fabric ribbons that framed the ceremony and also brought the barn for the reception to life! There was so much to capture, it was a dream to shoot. So great to see such creative talent in the wedding world…here’s to many more collaborations! Brand new branding, blog & website!

I’m so excited to finally reveal my new branding, blog and website! Its been SUCH a labor of love and I am so happy, I can’t express it in words!! As a graphic designer, I appreciate unique design and really value branding that speaks directly and creatively. Its been quite a journey to get to this place– I was aching to have something that I felt was ME, something that reflected my heart and my artistic vision. I have evolved so much over the last couple of years as a photographer and designer and it feels amazing to enter this new season! A huge thank you to all my amazing friends, family and clients who have shown me unbelievable support and have been part of this journey with me. I couldn’t  have done this without your love and encouragement.

A big huge thank you to Kelty from Steep Street who took my creative vision and translated it into a website that speaks so loudly of who I am and everything I envisioned. Being a designer myself, it’s everything when you find another designer who is on the same page and Kelty has been a God- send! It all began after I designed my new logo and began to brainstorm my look and feel, my vision.  Thanks Kelty!  The video on my site was created by my amazingly talented husband, Arash, who captured the behind the scenes story of engagement sessions, weddings and an editorial shoot. Hope you enjoy!

watching inspiration turn into reality…

My mom always told me that if I had my mind set on something, I’d get there and nothing could stop me–sometimes that works against me (umm…diet?!) but most of the time, its a great thing. I guess that means there’s a bit of determination in me…and a whole lot of grace given to me, that I don’t deserve. I got into the creative industry years ago, inspired by photography, fashion, print editorials, fabric patterns, and illustration. Some day, soon I hope, I will have a giant studio space where I can fill the white walls in magazine tears, fabric swatches and tons and tons of art and photos. An ideal spot for client meetings, in my opinion! Being able to photograph gorgeous weddings and meet amazing people is a dream come true. Coming from a design background, I’ve had some really cool opportunities to design and photograph in creative environments that I wouldn’t trade for anything. The creative world is where I belong-I find my voice in photographs and being able to tell a story.

I’ll let you in on a little secret…I heart Jenna Lyons. I’m pretty much obsessed inspired with her office, closet and the fact that she’s the Creative mastermind behind Jcrew. All those drool-worthy catalog spreads? Yeah. She gets to art direct them. Look at her office?! Someday I will add Creative Director to the titles of Photographer and Designer. Just putting it out there now. And in the meantime, back to work I go…loving the journey so far!

Happy weekend everyone! Photos of Jenna by Myra Iqbal

bay area portrait photographer | Ida Mae, Nino + Nico

Ida Mae and Nino got married years ago and never had a chance to do a session or photograph their wedding. Fast forward a few years and add adorable baby, Nico…and you get the perfect opportunity to photograph their new lives. Nico is the most adorable little boy, so smiley and sweet. Nino and Ida Mae have such a unity and love between them, it was so inspiring to spend the day with them!

Inspired by // a little fashion, a little gaga

One of my favorite things to do when I finally get a chance to unwind is watch music videos or movie trailers on my phone. Maybe its weird, I don’t know…but its just something I’ve done over the years. I find them inspiring. Some catch my eye, inspire my design aesthetic, challenge me to look at things in a new way. The new Lady Gaga video is one that really fed my creative appetite. I’m not a huge fan of hers, but I do appreciate art and things that tend to lean more on the outrageous side– and she’s one to push the envelope when it comes to productions like this. The textures, wardrobe, colors and photography in this video are really well done. Hats off to you, gaga.

bay area lifestyle photography, sf | Arody & Piero

For their anniversary, Arody and Piero came to San Francisco from Mexico to see the sights and experience the city and all its quirky flair. Their love is so real they wore their hearts on their sleeve. I loved that. They have this love and joy between them, like old friends who have so much passion for life and for each other. Once in a while you meet people who you have an instant connection with, something inexplainable. Arody is a photographer too, who also studied graphic design and by the end of our session we decided we’re pretty much twin souls. As the three of us spent time together, Piero would just laugh because it was so crazy how much the two of us had in common…its moments like this and people like Arody and Piero that I seriously thank God for what I get to do. This was so much more than a session, it was a meeting of friends and a display of love that truly left a footprint.

cheers to 3 years of marriage…what’s not to celebrate?!

I don’t know what could have been a more perfect surprise but in honor of my 28th birthday and our 3 year anniversary, Arash and I swept away to Mexico for little celebratory vacation. I’ve always been one to figure out a surprise but Arash has been the first person to stump me time and time again…and this time was no different. He used clever & very tricky poems which he wrote to lead me to clues that spelled out the message: “we are flying to cancun”!! Are you joking?? Yessssss! What’s summer without working on the tan and doing a little swimming?? Endless guacamole, super hot sun, some polaroid action, pampering…we had the best time! I can’t believe its been 3 years since our 8.8.08 wedding–time flies like mad crazy fast. Over the last 3 years we’ve gone through a lot of change, grown so much as husband and wife, laughed a ton, been challenged when life goes its own route, been inspired by creative endeavors, and I can only look forward with excitement for all the new adventure to come in the future! I have been blessed so much by the man by my side…he’s an amazing example, a supportive best friend and loving husband. I could not ask for a better partner to walk out this journey with me.
